Walking home

I dont think many men out there realise what women have to go through every single day. This video is an experimental piece about women ritually facing street harassment as they walk home.

p e a c e

There is not a single instance in history where hate has brought joy to human beings. Hate destroys those who hold it in their mind and bodies. If humanity released all hate, fear and resentment, then no dictator could ever rise and we would have Peace on Earth. Peace on Earth can only occur through Peace within each of us.

Zoroastrianism

The philosophy of Zoroastrianism is based on the cosmic struggle between asa (truth) and druj (lie).

it is interesting to note that the two kinds of spirits are named ahuras and daevas, similar to the asuras and devas of Hindu mythology.

The resulting conflict of truth vs faslehood involves the entire universe, including humanity, which has an active role to play in the conflict.

Active participation in life through good thoughts, good words and good deeds is necessary to ensure happiness and to keep the chaos at bay.

Zoroastrianism is of great antiquity. In some form, it served as the nation of a significant portion of the Iranian peoples for many centuries before it was gradually marginalized by Islam from the 7th century onwards. The political power of the pre-Islamic Iranian dynasties lent Zoroastrianism immense prestige in ancient times, and some of its leading doctrines were adopted by other religious systems.

Although older (roughly early first millennium BCE), Zoroastrianism only enters recorded history in the mid-5th century BCE. Herodotus' The Histories (completed c. 440 BCE) includes a description of Greater Iran society with what may be recognizably Zoroastrian features. The Histories is a primary source of information on the early period of the Achaemenid eran(648–330 BCE), in particular with respect to the role of the Magi. According to Herodotus i.101, the Magi (followers of Zoroaster who had the ability to read the stars, and manipulate the fate that the stars foretold. This pejorative meaning survives in the words "magic" and "magician") were the sixth tribe of the Medians (until the unification of the Persian empire under Cyrus the Great.

Whether Cyrus II was a Zoroastrian is subject to debate. It did however influence him to the extent that it became the non-imposing religion of his empire, and its beliefs would later allow Cyrus to free the Jews from captivity and allow them to return to Judea in 539 BCE.

Many sacred Zoroastrian texts were lost when Alexander the Great's troops invaded Persepolis and destroyed the royal library there.

Two decrees in particular encouraged the transition to a preponderantly Islamic society. The first edict, adapted from a Arsacid and Sassanid one (but in those to the advantage of Zoroastrians), was that only a Muslim could own Muslim slaves or indentured servants. Thus, a bonded individual owned by a Zoroastrian could automatically become a freeman by converting to Islam. The other edict was that if one male member of a Zoroastrian family were to convert to Islam, he would instantly inherit all its property.

Under Abbasid rule, Muslim Iranians (who by then were in the majority) increasingly found ways to taunt Zoroastrians, and distressing them became a popular sport. For example, in the 9th century, a deeply sacred venerated cypress tree in Khorasan (which Parthian-era legend supposed had been planted by Zoroaster himself) was felled for the construction of a palace in Baghdad, 2000 miles away. In the 10th century, on the day that a tower of silence had been completed at much trouble and expense, a Muslim official contrived to get up onto it, and to call the adhan (the Muslim call to prayer) from its walls. This was made a pretext to annex the building. Another popular means to distress Zoroastrians was to maltreat dogs, these animals being sacred in Zoroastrianism. Such baiting, which was to continue down the centuries, was indulged in by all; not only by high officials, but by the general uneducated population as well.

Despite these economic and social incentives to convert, Zoroastrianism remained strong in some regions, particularly in those furthest away from the Caliphate capital at Baghdad. In Bukhara (present-day Uzbekistan), resistance to Islam required the 9th century Arab commander Qutaiba to convert his province four times. The first three times the citizens reverted to their old religion. Finally, the governor made their religion "difficult for them in every way", turned the local fire temple into a mosque, and encouraged the local population to attend Friday prayers by paying each attendee two dirhams. The cities where Arab governors resided were particularly vulnerable to such pressures, and in these cases the Zoroastrians were left with no choice but to either conform or to migrate to regions that had a more amicable administration. Among these migrations were those to cities in (or on the margins of) the great salt deserts, in particular to Yazd and Kerman, which remain centers of Zoroastrianism to this day.

Shine

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It’s not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

Extinct: Andaman tribe’s extermination complete as last member dies

The last member of a unique tribe has died on India’s Andaman Islands.

Boa Sr, who died last week aged around 85, was the last speaker of ‘Bo’, one of the ten Great Andamanese languages. The Bo are thought to have lived in the Andaman Islands for as much as 65,000 years, making them the descendants of one of the oldest human cultures on Earth.

Boa Sr was the oldest of the Great Andamanese, who now number just 52. Originally ten distinct tribes, the Great Andamanese were 5,000 strong when the British colonized the Andaman Islands in 1858. Most were killed or died of diseases brought by the colonizers.

Having failed to ‘pacify’ the tribes through violence, the British tried to ‘civilize’ them by capturing many and keeping them in an ‘Andaman Home’. Of the 150 children born in the home, none lived beyond the age of two.

The surviving Great Andamanese depend largely on the Indian government for food and shelter, and abuse of alcohol is rife.

Boa Sr survived the Asian tsunami of December 2004, and told linguists, ‘We were all there when the earthquake came.

Director of the charity Survival International, which is a charity that works to protect indigenous tribes all around the world said, ‘The Great Andamanese were first massacred, then all but wiped out by paternalistic policies which left them ravaged by epidemics of disease, and robbed of their land and independence.

‘With the death of Boa Sr and the extinction of the Bo language, a unique part of human society is now just a memory. Boa’s loss is a bleak reminder that we must not allow this to happen to the other tribes of the Andaman Islands.’

Noble Savage Myth

Photobucket

The concept of what civilizations are built on is and always will be an ongoing and evolving subject. The late American mythologist Joseph Campbell maintained that civilizations are not based on science, but on myth. “Aspiration,” Campbell explained, “is the motivator, builder and transformer of civilization.” Our technological society has been built on Francis Bacon’s myth of the New Atlantis.

Competing with Bacon’s vision of a scientific society based on intelligence, knowledge and innovation, is an older, more persistent fable: the Noble Savage. The Noble Savage is not a person, but an idea. It is cultural primitivism, the belief of people living in complex and evolved societies that the simple and primitive life is better. The Noble Savage is the myth that man can live in harmony with nature, that technology is destructive and that we would all be happier in a more primitive state.

Before Christ lived, the Noble Savage was known to the Hebrews as the Garden of Eden. The Greeks called it the lost Golden Age. In all the ages of the world, otherwise intelligent and learned persons have fallen swoon to the strange appeal of cultural primitivism. In the 16th century, French writer Michel de Montaigne described Americans Indians as so morally pure they had no words in their languages for lying, treachery, avarice and envy. And Montaigne portrayed the primitive life as so idyllic that American Indians did not have to work, but could spend the whole day dancing.

Your gr/attitude determines your latitude

It's important to be grateful for everything in your life. Many people focus on one thing they want and forget to be grateful for all the things they have. Without gratitude you can't achieve anything, because if you're not emanating gratitude, then by default you're emanating ungratefulness. Be proactive... and use the frequency of your being to receive what you want.

"Light-Echo" from an Exploding Star

Imagine a camera-flash in space ... it's an expanding sphere of light.

In this photo we have a star which has exploded. We are seeing the light-burst traveling outwards in all directions as it illuminates dust and gas previously blown-off by the star.

Size comprehension -
our entire Solar System would fit easily inside the red aura around the star, look again at the dates on the images and remember that light travels at roughly 186,000 miles per second and these pics span 6 months at that speed.

Free The Robots : Roam & Urth - From Elsewhere

I remember buying a couple of Tees from Bond (Carnaby street) back in 2006 when the guy behind the till popped a cd into the bag with interesting artwork on it, which turned out to be by Mr Shephard Fairey. I didn't take much notice of it and had it laying around in my room for a good few months until one time on a stoned evening in by myself I decided to stick it on. The result was a journey through sound.

Since then, I wouldn't be exagerrating if I said that this album acted as a catalyst in my evolution of self from that point onwards. Every occasion that I've stuck it on when I've been in the company of others has always been a very sparkly intense one, let alone when I'm by myself whih is just SOMETHING ELSE haha... From Portishead, to Eazy E, random turkish folk singing, Mos Def, Gangsta Boogie, Gypsy Woman, Muse, Roy Ayers, ODB, wild woods, Fela Kuti, The Specials, lounge trumpets, J Dilla, Outkast, Radiohead, The streets, to skits from movies like Nacho Libre, to all kinda crazy psychadelic acid jazz funk mad ska rock punk skater GOD knows what else it's like a cocktail of magnificent goodness moulded into a trippy story. It gives your mind the same feeling that those Maoam sweets give your tastebuds. Ear Nectar if you will.

I suggest that if you're into eclectic music check out Obey records & The Brainfeeder massive (which I've banged on about before) it's like vitamins for your mind. If, or shall I say when I take acid it will be to this.

Mind Game

By the same people who made Tekkinkonkreet, this movie grabs you right from the beginning with its crazy, bizarre, unique visuals and storyline. As an artist myself, I almost felt intimidated with the sheer talent and imagination of the people who made this. Personally, the movie tapped into many dreams, thoughts & beliefs on life that have always been tucked away deep in my conciousness from my childhood; the type of stuff that tends to come out in dreams. The overall message of the film is about the true meaning of life itself, letting go, and the power of the mind. There are certain scenes in it that are just pure genius, literally leaving me breathless. No movie has ever done that to me and I can quite easily say it's now my personal favourite movie of all time. It's just some next level shit.... Watch it!

Louis Vuitton sue charity

Louis Vuitton is suing a charity initiative supporting Darfur!

Louis Vuitton demands $24030.76 in daily fines if the Darfur supporting project do not stop the sale of their t-shirts with a poor black boy with baloon stomack and a designers bag and a Paris Hilton dog under his arm.

They claim the drawing is too close to their design, and will thereby shut down this non-profit initiative to support the poor people in Darfur.

Fools Gold

Image and Hype will only get you so far. Substance and the consistent progress of self realization is essential for true self affirmation. Just because you're a character doesn't mean you have character. On that note I shall leave you with Mr Bowie to finish off my rant for me. "Homosapiens have outgrown their use..."

Not everyday you meet a real Dragon Wizard...

Conrad Heironhantal Chief Priest and Lord Primal Dragon master of the official legally recognised Dragon faith, craft and race for the whole of the British Isles. Thats a title and a half. I've seen him around before and always thought he was a nutcase walking around with his long dark velvet capes and robes and with his crystal wizard staff. Certainly didnt look like it was from a fancy dress shop though. I saw him today sitting outside a coffee shop and decided to walk over and have a chat. After talking to him for a while, he actually seemed pretty normal and the more I looked at him, the more I listened to him, I realised that he's actually not messing about.

"So are you a wizard or something?" I said and he went on to explain his title and what he does. He even had burn marks on his robe which were certainly not from smoking crack and a few people walked past and very respectfully greeted him. He handed me a flyer, with a red wax seal, that he'd made with his gothic handwriting for his familiar; a raven-black kitten by the name of Adramelech who had been stolen. The flyer went on to say "...the young female instigator of this evil action does not realise what they have incurred upon themselves, the threefold law of return, for what goes around comes around, she will rightfully reap what she has sown, the law of karma she has set in motion means she condems herself to the second death total Armialation and Oblivion at the will and Ordinance of the Gods which strike anytime within a year of the time of the offence..."

I looked him up on the internet and it turns out he won a courtcase to carry an ornamental knife with a dragon head around with him for religious purposes. He said the knife, known as a athame, was essential to his religion and that he couldn't live without it as it has essential uses in magic.

Anyone who steals a raven black kitten who goes by the name of Adramelekh, who happens to be the familiar of a dragon wizard and wears the Pagan star round its neck has either lost the plot or wants it for other reasons. Funnily enough, he had another black cat stolen from him by the name of Zagan a couple of years back, who was then returned to him. The missing poster was signed off with 'H.D.G Conrad, Lord Azubakin of Draconia'. Adramelekh by the way is a Samarian Sun God and in Paganism known as the Chancellor of hell and supervisor to Satan's wardrobe.

I'll never forget our converstaion about how he dealt with being who is throughout his childhood! I'm not one to suffer fools or nutcases but Lord Conrad was certainly a real Dragon Lord!

Thoughts become things

Your mind thinks thoughts, and those thoughts are broadcast back to you as your life experience. You not only create your life with your thoughts, but your thoughts add powerfully to the creation of the world. If you thought that you were insignificant and had no power in this world, think again. Your mind is actually shaping the world around you.

Opium

"Opium creates a psychic screen between the mind and the body of the smoker, so that pain becomes an abstraction, without the sharpness of physical sensation...The anesthesia produced by opium may be described as a sort of cerebral intoxication, a psychic fog between oneself and external reality that diminishes the outer world. The smoker forgets he has a body. His mind escapes the prison of the flesh and the material world, and is removed to the periphery of reality by the centrifugal force of opium. He escapes not only his own body, but also the physical world in which his body exists. Opium plays a siren's tune on the piano off his nerves, and as he listens, the smoker forgets about the passage of time, and he also forgets about hunger, thirst, fatigue and sleep."
